Integrating Landsat-Derived Disturbance Maps with FIA Inventory Data: Applications for State-Level Forest Resource Assessments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Landsat images have been widely used for assessing forest characteristics and dynamics. Recently, signifi cant progress has been made towards indepth exploration of the rich Landsat archive kept by the U.S. Geological Survey to improve our under standing of forest disturbance and recovery processes. In this study, we used Landsat images to map forest disturbances at biennial intervals from 1984 to 2007 for the State of Mississippi. Forest Inventory and Analysis plot data were used to characterize and validate the mapped disturbances. These products were used to produce multi-county forest assessments, which were compared with those derived from inventory data. We conducted our study, in part, to support a larger conterminous U.S.-level LANDFIRE effort.

متن کاملIntegrating forest inventory and analysis data into a LIDAR-based carbon monitoring system
BACKGROUND Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) data may be a valuable component of a LIDAR-based carbon monitoring system, but integration of the two observation systems is not without challenges. To explore integration methods, two wall-to-wall LIDAR-derived biomass maps were compared to FIA data at both the plot and county levels in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties in Maryland. Allometric mod...

The USDA Forest Service’s Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program collects, analyzes, and reports on the status and trends of America’s forests. One of these data mining tools is the Forest Inventory Mapmaker webapplication ...

The k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN) method of forest attribute estimation and mapping has become an integral part of national forest inventory methods in Finland in the last decade. Here we present results from applying the method to Landsat TM and ETM+ ...

We used a sample of Landsat time-series stacks (LTSS) across the conterminous U.S., calibrated with Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) plot-level biomass data to estimate 20+ year trends in live, aboveground biomass. To help overcome some of the limitations associated with optical remote sensing of biomass stocks, we employed a pixel-level curve-fitting algorithm to leverage the information co...
